Back to my roots & a visit to the ER

I've been trying to think of ways that I can cut back on my spending since we will be having to make a house payment soon that we are not used to making.  One of the things that I spend entirely too much money on is my hair.  I am not even sure of my natural color because I have been getting my hair highlighted and/or colored since early high school but I do know it's very dark by looking at my roots.  It used to be a very dull medium brown & now I think it has darkened over the years to a very dull dark brown.  Ever since I got married,  I have always gotten color & highlights because I feel like I look better with lighter hair.  Especially with my very pale complexion.  However, it is very expensive & I don't have any grays {yet} so there really is no reason why I should be spending so much on having my hair colored.

Friday night, I had my hair girl do an all over color to what we hope is close to my natural color.

I feel like it is very drastic, but here it is:

A tan would probably help me look better with the very dark hair but that would require two things that I don't have much of: time & money.

In other completely different news, we had a huge scare last night.  Around 9:00, Patrick started complaining of pains in his back & stomach.  I didn't think much of...just figured he had a stomach bug or something.  We went to bed & he tossed & turned & got up.  Thirty minutes later, I realized he hadn't come back to bed.  I went & checked on him & he was in the bathroom dripping sweat & in horrible pain.  That's when I realized something serious was going on.  I asked him did he want me to call his mom {since she is an RN}, he didn't.  I asked him did he need to go to the ER, he said he would wait a while longer to see if the pain eased off.  Finally, at 11:00, he came & got me & said he had to go somewhere.  By this point, he was groaning in pain & could barely walk.  I called his parents & told them what was going on & told them we would drop Mallory off at their house since it was on the way to the hospital.  Patrick's mom told us it sounded like a kidney stone.  I was relieved that it didn't seem to be something serious.
We were on our way to the ER & Patrick seemed to be getting worse & worse by the second.  I was trying to get there as fast as I possibly could.  We got a little over half way there when P started breathing very short & rapidly.  All of a sudden he said, "I can't feel my hands or straighten them out."  His voice was also slurred & his face looked drawn.  That's when I started panicking.  All I could think about was a stroke & that I should have called 911 instead of trying to drive him.  I called P's mom & told her what was going on.  She told me to call 911 at that point, so I did.  By this time, I was only a few minutes from the hospital so the 911 operator told me to just keep going as safely & quickly as possible because I could be there before an ambulance could.  After I hung up with him, I told P to try to slow his breathing.  He started taking longer, slower breaths & the feeling started coming back into his hands.  Finally, we arrived to the ER.  P got wheeled inside & after a short wait {thank the Lord!}, we were seen.
The doctor & nurses seem to think that he was hyperventilating from the pain & that caused his stroke like symptoms.  Most people get sick on their stomach, but he reacted differently.  A scan proved that the verdict of all the pain is indeed a kidney stone.  After what seemed to be a lot of waiting, he finally got an IV with some great pain meds & could rest peacefully.
We got back home at 3:30 this morning.  Grandaddy Oneal brought Mallory home at 6:30, so needless to say, it has been a long day.  P is much, much better though & I am so very thankful that we made it safely to the ER & that it was nothing more serious.  Granny ended up going to sleep with Mallory & P's parents came to the hospital after I called in a panic.  I am so thankful for them also!  Nothing like a big scare, to make you count your many blessings!
